Muscat: The Security and Services inspection team of the Al Wusta Governorate seized 15 illegal fishing nets (locally known as 'scorpion' nets) during a field sweep targeting the coastline of Ras Al Ruwais in Mahout, early Monday morning, May 4, 2026.
This action is part of ongoing efforts to protect marine life and curb illegal practices.
The team found the nets inside an abandoned boat on the shore, without an engine, indicating their use in violation of regulations.
The necessary legal procedures were immediately initiated, and the nets were confiscated and impounded.
